  1. Can you tell me about scheduling a private workshop in Western Washington? How many students are needed to form a class? What is the cost to hire you as a teacher? Do you have access to a teaching classroom? Or do we need to organize the teaching space? Please get back in touch as a number of people in my painting group are interested in learning to make books. Thank you, Mary Scheibler

  2. Hi Shoshona-
Thank you for signing up for my workshops!
Yes, I will be teaching the matchbox structure workshop. Arbutus said it will appear on their registration page soon. Keep checking back with their web site. I have been watching for it, too, and I will contact you as soon as I see it on the registration page.
I look forward to seeing you in class!

  3. Great admirer of your work’s complexity and scale, and your August class @ The Morgan would address both my very limited experience with sewn bindings and my complete lack of experience with boxes. It’s pretty much a dream com true, but I wonder how much experience you assume of your students. Hope you can answer soon. Thanks for listening! judith

    1. Hi Judith-
Thank you for your kind comments. I look forward to meeting you in class.
I cut most of the materials for the class, so you will do very little measuring. If you are good with tools and have a familiarity with paper crafts, you will do fine in this class.
I’m so glad you signed up because it is challenging, but the result is a conversation piece you can show off to your friends!

  4. Dear Randi,

I am interested in your one week workshop at Arrowmont in October. My art endeavors include fiber (printing, collaging, sewing etc), printmaking, ceramics, felting etc. I am retiring after a 40 year career in science and want to make something artistic with my scientific journal articles. Your boxes with books would be a wonderful way to do this. I have no bookmaking experience though. Would the Arrowmont workshop be appropriate. I live in NJ.

    1. Hi Adria-
It sounds to me like you have enough experience with paper art and craft for this workshop. I cut most materials ahead of the class so you won’t be doing much measuring.
Thank you for your interest. I hope to see you in class!

  5. I love your work! I have a technical question: Do you plan for the thickness of the (final) pieces before you make the model, or do you make the model and then make the finished pieces to match it?? I think the variety of papers you use must make the thickness of pieces hard to keep track of! Wow! You must indeed be passionate about your art.

    1. Hi Andrea-
I always build a full size model first. That works out any structural or design problems. I didn’t used to made models because I was impatient to “get it done”, but now I always do and it saves me a ton of heartache and time and materials! Thanks for asking!

  6. Randi, I was one of the members of the Corvallis Art Guild who heard your talk and saw your work and studio on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022. It was wonderful! I am mainly a fiber artists, though I do do watercolors and some other mediums. for some time now I have been making cards and boxes with watercolors that did not turn out as a I wished they had. I have also been toying with an ideas given to me by another artist, of making baskets out of them, using stripped . Much of my fiber work takes lots of detail and more time than I usually think it will. Your talk and art inspired me to keep on with one project and get others planned. Your Tansu Gothic was also inspiring. It reminded me of some other the porsacelin and sculptures shown and lectured on by curators at the Frick museum in New York City on a series of talks called “Cocktails with a Curator. So thank you so much and much good fortune and art making success. Peggy Sharrow

  7. What type of paper are you embellishing in the Newport Paper Arts Festival class? For the projects I do I need to have 140 lb. watercolor paper and am wondering if that process will work on that weight of paper. Thank you!
